I believe the law of 3 is at work in the movement to abolish the police. The three moves (forces) are Affirming-Denying-Reconciling (also life-death-resurrection). The denying force - has to (IMHO) get stronger before the reconciling force emerges. It is the way of "things". I will "stand" with those who have the courage to endure the NO until a new, as of yet unseen, WAY emerges.
This brings to mind a favorite poem by such a courageous poet, Yehuda Amichai: The Place Where We Are Right From the place where we are right Flowers will never grow In the spring. The place where we are right Is hard and trampled Like a yard. But doubts and loves Dig up the world Like a mole, a plow. And a whisper will be heard in the place Where the ruined House once stood. Yehuda Amichai (1924 - 2000) was an Israeli poet. He was born in Germany, then immigrated with his family to Palestine in 1936. He fought in the Israeli War of Independence as a young man, but became an advocate of peace and reconciliation in the region, working with Palestinian writers. He was 'discovered' in 1965 by Ted Hughes, who later translated several of Amichai's books. (From the Wikipedia article on Yehuda Amichai.)
