Caleb RukundoBorn in 1976 to a poor family in South Western Uganda, Caleb was the seventh of twelve siblings. Because his parents could not take care of all of the children, Caleb was forced to leave home and fend for himself at age seven. He began by living with relatives and friends but eventually ended up alone in the slums of Kampala.
In the darkest of times, God never lost sight of Caleb and provided an opportunity for him to attend Cornerstone Leadership Academy, a boarding high school that purposed to mold young men from poor backgrounds into future leaders. In 1997 the school only admitted 30 young men from the 300 applications and Caleb was selected. Selected students earned their education working on Cornerstone’s Ranch where the school was located. Caleb excelled in the Cornerstone program and by finishing at the top of the class earned entry into Makerere University, one of Uganda’s premier institutions of higher learning. There he earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Tourism and later a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Management. Caleb never lost his heart for the plight of the orphan and while attending University began the street feeding program that continues today. Leveraging generous support from partners, Caleb formalized Amahoro in 1999 and its impact on the children of Uganda continues to multiple to this day. |
Headquartered in Matugga, 15 km from downtown Kampala, Amahoro operates four programs:
A Primary School - with 400 children grades K-8 in Matugga. Fully accredited the school opened in 2018. It is one of the top schools in the region.
A feeding program for street children to provide life sustaining nutrition and begin building relationships that possibly lead to deeper ministry.
Two orphan care homes where children are provided a safe environment and further counselling and guidance. This is where the comprehensive rehabilitation process begins.
Farm operation to fund the Amahoro ministry with the goal of ultimately becoming a totally self-sustaining program not requiring external donations
